Too hot to handle for Israel, Fernando Santos’ men recorded an emphatic win in their final warm-up match for Euro 2020.
It was a perfect night for Portugal as their star men shone brightly in the 4-0 victory over Israel at the Jose Alvalade Stadium on Wednesday.
Cristiano Ronaldo was able to test the opposition goalkeeper within mere seconds of kick-off but his shot lacked any sting and was comfortably by Marciano. Ronaldo tried testing the keeper in quick succession, but that time his shot flew off to the right of the goal.
It was not until the final five minutes of the first half that the hosts got their goal, with Bruno Fernandes firing a low shot from near the penalty spot.
Ronaldo finally found the net shortly after Fernandes’ opener, rolling the ball into the back of the net with a left-footed strike from inside the area. It marked the Juventus forward’s 104th goal for his country, and he will enter Euro 2020 with only five goals shy of becoming the all-time top-scorer in international football.
Just like in the first half, Portugal waited until very late in the second half to score. Joao Cancelo tripled his side’s advantage in the 86th minute before Fernandes hit the top corner from outside the area to seal the emphatic win.
